At last month’s biennial assembly of the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE) in Baltimore, Montreal’s Bronfman Jewish Education Centre (BJEC) was honoured with the prestigious Central Agency-led Collaboration Award.
PEJE is the recognized expert in Jewish day school education in North America, setting standards for excellence and best practices. It is exclusively dedicated to energizing the Jewish day school field by creating exemplary education and maximizing accessibility. It commended its award recipients for being “moved to embrace the difficult work of engagement because they recognized that the challenges facing their vision of the Jewish future could only be addressed by bold, creative and dramatic collaborative action.”
BJEC partners with Federation CJA and GEN J, as well as the network of Jewish day schools, and the various other outlets for formal and informal Jewish education in Montreal. It was recognized for its unique role as a centre for excellence in education.
A delegation of 30 individuals from Montreal attended the Baltimore conference. It included representatives of Akiva School, Beth Rivkah Academy, Hebrew Foundation School, Solomon Schechter Academy and UTT/Herzliah, as well as Federation CJA and BJEC.
Federation CJA allocated close to $4.5 million, which includes nearly $3 million in tuition assistance, to the Bronfman Jewish Education Centre and Bronfman Israel Experience Centre for 2010-2011
